It used to be that around this time of year Kevin and I would vacation with his parents in the Southwest - specifically at a couple of different places near Phoenix and Tuscon. My first trip with his family happened here, and the resort in the image above is where we got engaged our senior year of college, eight years ago yesterday.
Other travel priorities have kept us away for awhile, which is really too bad. I love the desert - how pretty the plants are and how different the air feels, the hiking and the good Mexican food. And on a more shallow note, this is probably the nicest resort I’ve ever visited. Growing up, my family took one vacation a year - we drove to Florida and stayed with my grandparents for spring break. Those remain some of the very best weeks of my life - nothing tops my childhood Siesta Key trips - but when I set foot on these grounds and saw all of the fancy swimming pools, the landscaping, the cucumber water in the lobby, the fire pits and jacuzzis, when I heard about the spa treatments and yoga classes, when I saw a man whose only job seemed to be raking and then re-raking the rocks in front of the main building into perfect rows…I was beside myself. I remember it felt like too much…it was too good.
Anyway, I miss it. And I’m glad to have such happy memories there.
